Penalties and fair driving

Unfortunately, F1 2011 can still be a little temperamental regarding penalties and will occasionally give out a time penalty for something that perhaps doesn’t warrant it. If you feel this is the case then make state your case after the race with, if possible, video evidence and/or back up from other racers who saw the incident in question. If we think something was handed out unfairly then the penalty will be scrubbed and the person in question placed where they originally finished in the running order.

On the other hand, it’s often incredibly difficult to make decisions on collisions (especially with no replays available), so these should be self-policed. Handing our penalties post-race will just make people unhappy and angry. If you feel like you’ve been a bit of a numpty and slapped into someone to gain a position, seriously consider letting off the gas and allowing them to resume their position ahead. We’ve seen countless times on both F1 2010 and F1 2011 that you guys are a fair and reasonable bunch, so we have no issues with this being a problem.

Restarts

If two or more people disconnect from a qualifying session in the first 5 minutes, the session will be restarted up to a maximum of two times. Likewise, if two or more people are disconnected before the completion of Lap 3 of a race, it will be restarted up to a maximum of twice. Ideally we’d like to restart as many times as needed, but obviously this could lead to sessions lasting nearly two hours and that will be no good for anyone.

In case of a race restart, the pack will leave the grid and shuffle into order on a mutually agreed section of circuit on the opening ‘parade’ lap. This parade lap should be undertaken at 1/2 – 3/4 racing speed to avoid blocking penalties. At the end of the first lap the pole-sitter (and hence leader) will have control over the field and resume a normal race into or out of the final corner of the circuit.

There will be no restarts for collisions – these have in the past proven far too difficult to gauge in terms of what would be restart-worthy. General advice: remember that you have cold tyres, lots of fuel and that the race isn’t won at the first corner! :blah:

Assists

All assists are allowed, although we do encourage people with steering wheels to use as few assists as possible as it makes the cars immense fun to drive and makes you look less like a boy, more like a man.

Last of all, have fun :hat:

Heaven & Hell Tour: Hungary

December 14, 2011 in Race Report

Williams made a storming start to the H&H tour with their new signing Superdelphinus snatching pole position from McLaren’s shamblemonkeee in the dying seconds of a rain soaked qualifying on Saturday and then  delivering the win in a wild race that saw most teams pit their cars 4 times.

shamblemonkee thinks he has pole…

Superdelphinus grabs pole in the dying seconds of qualifying

The grid lined up as follows:

superdelphinus – 1:23.713
shamblemonkeee +0.387
scoobiesi +0.755
corstick +0.834
ranger +0.874
rageboy +2.123
griffox +2.535
loopthry +2.585
agrocroc +3

Race
At the front of the grid superdelph got the Williams away well and was first into turn 1, shamblemonkee struggled with traction and lost out  to the fast starting Mercedes of Ranger.  Further down the field  it was a bit of first day at school syndrome with some ambitious moves and overly aggressive defending.

Bullies

The Williams and McLaren quickly established a lead over the pack with ranger not quite able to keep touch despite pushing his Mercedes for all he could.  Shamblemonkeee reeled in the Williams until on lap 8  a mad dive down the inside at turn 12 put the McLaren off the track and left the Williams pit crew frantically monitoring their data for signs of damage.  They needn’t have worried though as superdelph was driving in the form of his life.

During the course of the race the two would battle as their countering tyre strategies brought them together stint after stint.  Meanwhile the double world champion corstick overcame technical gremlins to steam the Red Bull up the field in dramatic fashion.  Christian Horner’s left leg was last seen jigging down the pit lane having shaken loose from the fidgety team boss.

Ferrari were left wondering what went wrong after the strong on paper pairing of scoobiesi and agrocroc exploded in stunning fashion at the start.  Stefano will no doubt be reading the riot act to his drivers back at Maranello in advance of the next race in Belgium.  Scoobs Ferrari never quite seemed the same afterwards and became the tours first retirement.

A pit-stop in the dying laps of the race for shamblemonkee after his tyres fell off the cliff handed second place to red bull.

The final standings were:

25 superdelphinus – 47:25.286
18 corstick +14.430
15 shamblemonkee +14.543
12 ranger +29.395
10 Agrocroc +29.395
08 rageboy +47.989
06 loopthry +52.960
04 griffox +1 lap
02 scoobiesi DNF

Constructors
31 Williams
20 Mercedes
19 McLaren
18 Red Bull
12 Ferrari

Fastest lap – corstick – 1:16.123

December 7, 2011 in News

We took the chance to use the first week of the off-season as a test of some new rules and ideas to evaluate them prior to use in future championships.

Heading to Istanbul, Turkey we had a number of items on the agenda;

  • Evaluate our new drives for the upcoming season, with many of us in new cars.
  • evaluate AI for potential use
  • Evaluate running as teams
